Implantable Sensor with Wireless Transmitter
As wireless technology has evolved, so has the need for integration of wireless solutions into existing data transfer platforms. Telesensors has a rich history of developing wireless solutions into new products and providing integrated wireless for existing products.
Many factors come into play to determine the best wireless solution for a given application. Transmission range, power budget, data rates, size, and cost constraints are just a few. Telesensors has experience with short hop proprietary and standards based solutions. For long haul requirements, Telesensors has integrated Cell Phone and Satellite based technology.
Proprietary Solutions
For many customers, a proprietary solution can be the best choice. When size and power are important system constraints, a proprietary solution developed from standard components can be the best solution.
For example, a proprietary solution is ideal for very low power sensor applications that require one way data transmission to a local base station or network access point.
Also, a proprietary solution may be needed for implantable devices or applications where the product has transmission problems due to metal shielding.
Telesensors has experience in providing custom power, short-hop, wireless solutions in the 433 MHz, 900 MHz, and 2.4 GHz bands.
Standards Based Solutions
Standards based solutions can provide good wireless performance for the right application. Low data rate systems where power is less constrained may benefit from use of a standards based solution such as a ZigBee wireless mesh network. Telesensors has developed systems using standard ZigBee mesh networks.
For systems requiring long haul communications, Telesensors can provide standard cell phone and/or satellite based technologies. Often a GSM cell phone or Iridium satellite link is used to transfer data from a local wireless network to a central server.
A complete system may have a short-hop proprietary wireless sensor transmitting to a local ZigBee network access point. Data moves over the ZigBee network to a cell phone or satellite enabled base station. If the data movement is well defined, a short-hop link to the base station is all that is needed.
Where cell phone transmission is intermittent or unavailable, Satellite communication with a base station is another option. Telesensors has experience in the implementation of both Iridium and Orbcomm low orbit satellite systems.
The ability to integrate wireless systems has expanded the market for local sensor applications. With the integration of wireless/sensor systems, power management has become a more critical design consideration. Telesensors has continued to expand our heritage in the small size, low power management. Read more on our Energy/Power Management page.
